Ghaziabad, February 24, 2026: During his visit to Ghaziabad on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Namo Bharat corridor on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the Harnandipuram township project and asked Ghaziabad Development Authority officials to expedite the land acquisition process.

Project Funding and Progress

According to a GDA official, the project is being developed under the CM Urban Expansion New City Promotion Scheme, and ₹400 crore in funds has been allotted by the state government. The chief minister was informed about the progress being made in land acquisition during the review meeting.

Under the mutual agreed rate clause, registries of more than 35 hectares of land have already been completed, and consent has been sought from farmers for the remaining land parcels. Additionally, the authority has received consent from farmers for another 85 hectares of land, and LMC land will also be assimilated into the project.

Enhanced Powers for GDA

To expedite new township projects being taken up under the scheme, the state government has given the development authority board rights to change land use. In Harnandipuram, around 80% of land is currently under agricultural land use. With the new policy in place, GDA will now have sweeping powers to change the land use without seeking permission from the state government, which was required earlier.

Phased Development Plan

GDA plans to develop the Harnandipuram township in phases. In the first phase, the development authority has set a target to acquire 336 hectares from three villages:

  • Mathurapur

  • Shamsher

  • Nangla Feroze Mohan Nagar

The land bank created through completed registries, farmer consent, and assimilation of LMC land will be sufficient for the launch of the first phase of the township, officials said.

Strategic Significance

The Harnandipuram township project is part of the state government's broader vision for urban expansion in the National Capital Region. With enhanced connectivity through infrastructure projects like the Namo Bharat corridor and the Delhi–Meerut Expressway, Ghaziabad is emerging as a key residential destination. The expedited land acquisition for this township is expected to further boost real estate development in the region.
