Ambala Cantonment to Become a Metropolis: Seven New Sectors Planned Across 1,000 Acres, Announces Haryana Minister Anil Vij

Ambala, March 2, 2026: Haryana minister Anil Vij has announced an urban expansion plan for Ambala Cantonment, stating that the process to develop seven new sectors under the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran has begun. The initiative is expected to significantly expand the city's footprint, upgrade residential and civic infrastructure, and pave the way for Ambala Cantt to emerge as a metropolitan hub .
Project Details
The seven sectors will be developed over approximately 1,000 acres spanning Ambala Cantt constituency and adjoining villages, including Ghasitpur, Buhawa, Shahpur, Brahman Majra, Kardhan, Sarsehri, Chandpura, Machhonda, Ugada, Dukheri, Salarheri, Ranwala, Manglai, and Sambhalkhan .
The proposed sectors are Sector 27, 28, 36, 40, 40-A, 41-A, and 42. These will include residential areas, open spaces, commercial zones, transport and communication facilities, and industrial plots, ensuring balanced and planned development .
Land Aggregation Process
The minister informed that the state government has opened the e-Bhoomi portal for land aggregation for these sectors, with applications accepted until April 30, 2026 (over the next two months). Landowners willing to voluntarily sell land for sector development can apply through the portal .
Vij emphasized that the process has been made transparent, assuring landowners of fair market prices and direct participation in the development process .
Strategic Vision
Highlighting the long-term vision, Vij said the development of seven new sectors will extend Ambala Cantt up to the Ring Road, marking a major step towards expansion and modernization. He noted that the plan aligns with the city's rapid growth and ongoing infrastructure projects .
Driven by Ring Road Development
Vij recalled that, in view of the Ring Road construction, he wrote to the Haryana government last year, urging the development of new HSVP sectors in Ambala Cantt. He also held meetings with officials and called for surveys along the Ring Road corridor to identify suitable land for planned urban sectors .
Expressing gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Vij said the state government accelerated infrastructure development, calling the move a commendable step towards modern urban growth .
