MahaRERA Cracks Down on Errant Builders, Issues Notices Over 8,212 Projects

Mumbai, May 4: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority has initiated action against developers of 8,212 housing projects for failing to submit mandatory quarterly progress reports (QPRs) within the stipulated deadline.
MMR Projects
Of the defaulting projects, 4,644 are from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region:

Thane: 1,465 projects

Mumbai Suburban: 1,263 projects
Region-Wise Breakdown

Pune: 1,957 projects (highest)

MMR (including Konkan): 4,644 projects

Nashik (Khandesh): 451 projects

Nagpur (Vidarbha): 391 projects

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Marathwada): 185 projects
Show-Cause Notices
The regulator has issued show-cause notices under Section 7 of the Act. Developers have 60 days to respond and update pending filings.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Failure to comply could trigger:

Suspension or cancellation of project registration

Freezing of project bank accounts

Restrictions on advertising and marketing

Halt registration of sale/purchase transactions

MahaRERA Chairman Manoj Saunik said: "If any developer does not update the quarterly progress report despite repeated follow-ups, MahaRERA will not hesitate to cancel or keep such project's registration in abeyance."
