Pune, May 6: A survey of government land leased on a long-term basis in the district has detected 240 violations across 2,161 parcels, with the administration initiating action to reclaim leased lands for violation of norms after hearings, Pune collector Jitendra Dudi said on Tuesday.

Reclamation Orders Issued

"Orders to reclaim land from lease holders have already been issued for 15 parcels," Dudi said. The violations include non-renewal of leases, change in land use, occupation beyond sanctioned limits, unauthorised constructions, sub-letting for rental income and failure to utilise land within the stipulated timelines.

Highest Violations in These Areas

Officials said the highest number of breaches were found in Pune city and Haveli taluka following field inspections completed last year. "The cases were assessed over the past year and, after hearings, it was decided to withdraw land from violators. In cases of serious violations, the land will be reclaimed," Dudi said.

Survey and Notice Process

Dudi said the exercise began after directions to check such land were issued in September and October last year. "A comprehensive survey was carried out and 355 violations were initially identified. Notices were served to all parties concerned. Some have already responded. Penalty was levied for these 240 cases, and land will be reclaimed," he said.

Committee Recommendations

The move follows recommendations of the Vikas Kharge committee, tabled in the recent assembly session. The administration had initiated the verification process last year, examining over 2,000 leased parcels across the district.
