Ranchi, March 31: In a historic achievement, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has collected ₹108 crore in taxes during the current financial year. Of this, property tax collection accounts for ₹100 crore, emerging as the biggest contributor to overall revenue—a trend not seen in previous years.

Official Statement

Gautam Prasad Sahu, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of RMC, said: "We have crossed ₹100 crore in property tax collection itself, while the overall collection stands at around ₹108 crore. We are also expecting over a crore collection on the last day."

Revenue Sources

Apart from property tax, additional revenue has come from:

  • Water user charges

  • Trade licences

Reasons for the Surge

Officials attributed the achievement to:

  • Intensified collection drives

  • Improved digital payment systems, making it easier for residents to pay dues

  • Timely reminders encouraging compliance

Use of Funds

The revenue collected will be used to strengthen civic infrastructure, including:

  • Roads

  • Drainage systems

  • Street lighting

  • Sanitation

Priority will be given to areas contributing higher taxes.

Trader's Perspective

Awadh Kumar, an electronics trader in Lalpur, noted the convenience of the new system: "The online system has made tax payment much more convenient. Earlier, people delayed due to long queues, but now many are clearing dues on time."
