Chandigarh Estate Office Shortlists 25 Properties for Auction by April-End; Targets Over ₹1,000 Crore Revenue This Year

Chandigarh, April 4, 2026: In a major push to monetize government assets, the Chandigarh Estate Office has shortlisted around 25 properties for auction by the end of April. These properties, mostly residential, will be offered on a freehold basis.
The Chandigarh Administration plans to auction nearly 1,000 vacant government properties across residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional categories during the current financial year. The ambitious drive is expected to generate revenue of over ₹1,000 crore.
Key Highlights:
- First Quarter Target: ₹200 to ₹250 crore revenue from auctions.
- Property Mix: 130 residential sites, 205 commercial sites, 168 industrial sites, 5 nursing home sites, and 1 institutional site.
- Auctions will be conducted through e-auction mode on a monthly basis.
- All properties will be auctioned with clear titles, free from encumbrances, mortgages, or legal disputes.
The administration aims to make property auctions a regular annual exercise, similar to the yearly revision of collector rates. Officials believe this will help prevent illegal occupation of government land, reduce maintenance costs on vacant properties, and create a healthier real estate ecosystem in the city.
Senior UT officials stated that this systematic monetization of government assets will ensure optimal utilization of valuable land and buildings while boosting the city’s revenue.
