MCD Property Tax Collection Rises 46% to ₹3,116 Crore in FY26 on Improved Compliance and Amnesty Scheme

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has recorded a 46.12 per cent increase in property tax collection in the 2025-26 financial year, with total collections reaching ₹3,116.62 crore compared to ₹2,132.89 crore in the previous year, driven by improved compliance, targeted enforcement, and the SUNIYO amnesty scheme.

New Delhi, April 3: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has reported a significant jump in property tax collections, crossing the ₹3,000 crore mark for the first time.

Key Collection Figures

  • FY26 collection: ₹3,116.62 crore (up 46.12% from ₹2,132.89 crore in FY25)

  • Number of taxpayers: 13,52,562 (up 19.36% from 11,33,161)

  • First-time taxpayers: Approximately 1.12 lakh individuals contributed ₹448.89 crore

SUNIYO Amnesty Scheme Contribution

The Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) played a major role:

  • Total contribution: ₹1,236.03 crore from 2,06,861 taxpayers

  • Residential properties: ₹242.87 crore from over 1.47 lakh properties

  • Non-residential properties: ₹993.52 crore from over 59,000 properties

Data-Driven Identification of New Properties

The MCD leveraged third-party data sources to identify unassessed properties:

  • Trade licences and electricity data: Mapped 5,808 new properties, generating ₹25.68 crore

  • Power distribution data: Identified 43,114 properties, contributing approximately ₹40.20 crore

Enforcement Actions

Action was also taken against long-pending defaulters, including the attachment of properties in certain cases to recover dues.

Scheme Extension

The MCD has extended the SUNIYO scheme until the end of April, with a 5 per cent penalty applicable on dues, urging property owners to clear pending liabilities within the revised timeline.
