Delhi Allocates ₹80 Crore for Civic Upgrades in SC/ST Colonies

New Delhi, March 31: The Delhi government has allocated ₹80 crore under a focused scheme aimed at improving civic infrastructure in SC/ST colonies. The allocation is intended to address long-pending gaps in basic services across these areas and bring them closer to standard urban infrastructure levels.

Projects Underway

During a public event held in Shahbad Dairy, Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh inaugurated road development works and laid foundation stones for new street and drainage projects. He stated that the initiative is aimed at strengthening basic amenities and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Scope of Work

The works under this scheme include:

  • Construction of pucca roads

  • Strengthening of sewer lines

  • Development of proper drainage systems

  • Provision of clean drinking water

  • Installation of street lights

These upgrades are expected to directly impact daily living by reducing waterlogging, improving sanitation, and ensuring better access within residential areas.

Key Stretches Under Development

Work has already started on:

  • The road connecting the JJ Cluster in D-Block, Shahbad Daulatpur (Dairy) to Rohini Sector-25

  • The stretch linking Prahlad Vihar Colony Main Road to Shahbad Dairy

These routes are important for local movement and are expected to improve last-mile connectivity for residents.

Focus on Timely Execution

The minister indicated that the government is focusing not only on creating infrastructure but also on ensuring that the work is completed within a fixed timeline while maintaining construction quality. He added that such interventions are necessary to provide residents with more reliable and basic urban facilities.

Broader Approach

This scheme continues the government's broader approach of prioritising infrastructure development in marginalised and underdeveloped colonies. In the past, similar efforts have focused on regularising and upgrading such areas by improving roads, drainage, and other essential civic services, which are critical for planned urban growth.
