Chhattisgarh Leads Rural Housing with Over Six Lakh Homes Completed in FY26

Raipur, April 2: Chhattisgarh has recorded the highest number of rural houses completed in the country in FY26, with total completions crossing six lakh units. This marks the highest yearly achievement since the launch of PMAY-G in 2016.
Scheme-Wise Breakup
-
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G): Approximately 5.87 lakh houses completed
-
PM JANMAN Yojana (for particularly vulnerable tribal groups): Approximately 13,000 houses completed
-
Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (state scheme): Over 10,000 houses completed
Overall Target
The state had earlier approved nearly 18 lakh houses as part of its initial cabinet decisions. Surveys were conducted to identify all eligible beneficiaries, and the government has now ensured that housing support has reached all those who qualified under the schemes.
Chief Minister's Statement
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the government's focus has been on ensuring that every eligible rural family has access to a permanent house. He explained that housing plays an important role in providing security, stability, and improved living conditions, especially for economically weaker households.
Rural Economic Activity
The housing initiative has also contributed to rural economic development:
-
Dealer Didi Model: More than 9,000 women associated with self-help groups have been engaged in supplying construction materials, creating an additional income source at the local level
-
Mason Training: Over 6,000 masons have been trained to support construction work, including more than 1,200 women masons
-
Rehabilitation: Surrendered extremists have been provided livelihood opportunities through skill-based work in housing construction
Transparency and Grievance Redressal
A toll-free system has been put in place for transparency and grievance redressal. Authorities reported receiving over 1,500 complaints and suggestions in recent months, with efforts made to resolve issues quickly. Regular monitoring at the village and block levels has further supported timely completion of houses.
