Vijayawada Civic Body to Introduce QR-Based Door Numbers for Properties

Vijayawada, May 18: VMC is introducing QR codes to replace existing door numbers for 2.40 lakh households, aiming to speed up civic services, improve transparency in tax assessments, and streamline municipal administration.
Digital Property Profile
Under the new system, every property will be assigned a unique QR-enabled digital identity, replacing the existing conventional door numbering mechanism. The QR code linked to each property will store a comprehensive digital profile including property tax assessments, water tax and other municipal taxes, ownership-related details, geo-tagged property information, municipal service records and urban planning data.
Benefits for Residents
Officials say the new digital door numbering system offers several benefits, including faster verification of property records, reduced need for repeated documentation, improved transparency in tax assessments, easier grievance redressal, quicker access to civic services, and better identification for emergency and utility services. Citizens would be able to access property-related information directly through QR scanning, reducing dependence on physical municipal visits.
Training and Implementation
The civic body conducted a special training programme for circle 1, 2 and 3 staff on implementation of the QR code-based system. Ward planning and regulation secretaries, ward amenities secretaries and other concerned officials participated. Officials were trained on ULB boundary identification, road mapping, property data collection, parcel mapping, ERP data integration and geo-tagging of properties. Guidance was also provided on generating unique QR codes for each property.
AP Urban Digital Registry
A VMC official said, "The digital door number exercise is being taken up under the name of AP urban digital registry, and the exercise will commence shortly across the city." The system is expected to improve property identification, streamline municipal administration and strengthen urban planning mechanisms.
