Kolhapur Civic Body Announces 80% Rebate on Property Tax and Water Bill Penalties

Kolhapur, March 27: In a significant relief measure for property owners and water bill defaulters, the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced an 80 per cent rebate on property tax penalties and water bill late fees. The special scheme is available for defaulters who clear all their outstanding dues along with the current bill in a single lump sum payment.
The rebate applies to both residential and non-residential properties for payments made between March 26 and March 31, 2026. The decision follows a resolution passed by the general body, directives from Mayor Rouparani Nikam, and approval from Municipal Commissioner K. Manjulekshmi.

Extended Payment Facilities

Eligible Defaulters
Property owners whose taxes for the current financial year remained unpaid and became overdue within the current fiscal period are also eligible to avail themselves of the benefits offered under the scheme. This provision extends the relief to those who may have missed the regular payment deadlines during the year.
Warning Against Non-Payment
Mohan Suryawanshi, KMC Public Relations Officer, urged residents to take advantage of the concession scheme and warned of the consequences of continued default.
"To avoid unpleasant consequences, such as a 2 per cent penalty on outstanding dues, property seizure, or the recording of a lien on assets, as stipulated under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, residents are urged to pay their tax dues as soon as possible and avail themselves of this concession scheme," Suryawanshi said.
How to Pay
Residents can avail themselves of the scheme through the following channels:
-
Online: Visit the municipal corporation's website at https://web.kolhapurcorporation.gov.in/
-
Mobile app: Use the Android mobile app available for download
-
In-person: Visit any Citizen Facilitation Center, which will remain open on holidays from March 28 to 31
Background
The rebate scheme is aimed at boosting revenue collection for the civic body while providing relief to defaulters who may have accumulated significant penalties and late fees over time. By offering an 80 per cent discount on penalties, the KMC hopes to encourage lump sum payments and clear outstanding dues before the end of the financial year.
Outlook
With the scheme valid only until March 31, defaulters have a limited window to take advantage of this significant rebate. The extended working hours and holiday operations of Citizen Facilitation Centers, along with online payment options, provide multiple avenues for residents to clear their dues.
Property owners and water bill defaulters are advised to act quickly to avail themselves of the 80 per cent rebate and avoid the penalties, seizure actions, and liens that may follow non-payment under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act.
