Gurugram to Launch Doorstep Demolition Waste Pickup, Tighten Site Inspections

MCG is preparing to roll out door-to-door collection of construction and demolition waste and stepping up measures to dispose of it properly. The civic body has carried out 646 inspections at construction sites between January and March this year.

Gurugram, April 20: The move is part of a broader push to tighten waste management and curb dust pollution.

Air Quality Target

  • Current AQI: 189

  • Target AQI by 2026: 170

  • Target reduction in PM 2.5 & PM 10: 10%

C&D Waste Management

  • Daily generation: ~1,500 tonnes

  • Currently processed at Basai: ~1,200 tonnes/day

  • Planned: Additional processing plants + 20 designated collection points

Dust Control Measures

  • 20 mechanical road-sweeping machines deployed

  • Anti-smog guns and water sprinklers

  • Large-scale cleaning drive covering 294 roads

  • GPS-based monitoring of equipment

  • Target to redevelop over 493 km of roads

Traffic & EV Infrastructure

  • Traffic congestion hotspots identified: 31 (infrastructure being redeveloped)

  • Surveillance cameras: 1,200 operational; 2,700+ more planned

  • EV charging stations: 20 being set up

  • Battery-swapping stations: 25 being set up

  • Public bus fleet: Expansion planned in phases

Bandhwari Landfill

  • Legacy waste remaining: ~17.93 lakh metric tonnes

  • Processing capacity: Up to 2 lakh metric tonnes per month

  • Target clearance deadline: March 2027
