Maharashtra Approves Handover of Three Plots for Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development Project

Pune, May 15: Maharashtra has approved the transfer of three land plots totaling 52,851 sqm for Pune's riverfront development project. The Standing Committee also greenlit extending the project from Mundhwa to Manjari.

Land Plots Details

The plots include an 11,015 sqm parcel located between Sangamwadi Bridge and Bund Garden Bridge, a 34,128 sqm plot at the Mundhwa Botanical Garden, and another 7,700 sqm plot in the Mundhwa area belonging to the Women and Child Welfare Department. Mayor Manjusha Nagpure welcomed the state's decision, saying it would help improve the condition of the river.

Project Extension and Garbage Transfer Unit

Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the project would now move ahead at a faster pace, with approval to extend the riverfront development project from Mundhwa to Manjari. A proposal was also sanctioned to provide land near the PMPML bus depot for the Balewadi garbage transfer unit, which had recently witnessed a fire incident.

Heritage Water Supply Project Conservation

The standing committee gave the go-ahead for rejuvenation and conservation of the Peshwa-era Katraj to Shaniwarwada water supply project under a "heritage conservation project." The system functioned efficiently during the Peshwa era, including a nearly 20-km pipeline network supplying water from Katraj lake to core city areas, with several tanks constructed for water storage and distribution.

Other Decisions

A proposal was sanctioned to reduce the penalty on non-payment of property tax from 2 per cent to 1 per cent, which will now go to the general body for approval and later to the state government. A fund allocation of Rs 10 crore was also approved for PMC-run Kamla Nehru Hospital to upgrade medical services.
