The proposed developments include HIM ChandigarhHIM Panchkula, and Kangra Valley Aerocity, designed to create future-ready urban ecosystems that balance growth with sustainability.

Senior officials from HIMUDA, HUDCO, and the state government were also present to witness the signing, underscoring the importance of this collaborative effort for the state's urban development agenda.

Project Overview

The three satellite cities are envisioned as well-planned urban centers that will decongest existing urban areas while providing high-quality infrastructure and living standards.

  • HIM Chandigarh: A satellite city designed to complement the existing urban fabric of the Chandigarh region, offering planned residential, commercial, and institutional spaces.

  • HIM Panchkula: A development aimed at creating a sustainable urban extension near Panchkula, focusing on integrated infrastructure and green spaces.

  • Kangra Valley Aerocity: A strategically located aerocity development in the Kangra Valley, leveraging the region's connectivity potential to create a hub for commercial, residential, and hospitality activities.

Strategic Collaboration

The MoU brings together the expertise and resources of three key entities:

  • HIMUDA: The state's premier housing and urban development authority, responsible for planned urban growth across Himachal Pradesh.

  • Government of Himachal Pradesh: Providing policy support, regulatory framework, and strategic vision for the state's development.

  • HUDCO: A national-level techno-financial institution dedicated to supporting housing and urban infrastructure projects across India, bringing technical expertise and financial capacity to the collaboration.

Focus on Sustainable Urban Ecosystems

The initiative is positioned as a forward-looking effort aimed at fostering sustainable, well-planned, and future-ready urban ecosystems. Key focus areas include:

  • Strengthening infrastructure to support growing urban populations

  • Enhancing quality of life through planned residential and commercial development

  • Incorporating green building practices and environmental sustainability

  • Creating integrated transportation and connectivity networks

  • Promoting inclusive development that serves diverse community needs

HUDCO's Commitment to Urban Development

HUDCO, as a partner in this initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable urban development across the nation. The corporation's involvement brings financial and technical expertise that will be critical in translating the vision for these satellite cities into reality.

HUDCO has a long history of supporting urban infrastructure projects across India, with a focus on affordable housing, urban renewal, and sustainable development initiatives.

Vision for Himachal Pradesh's Urban Future

The development of these three satellite cities represents a significant step in Himachal Pradesh's urban planning strategy. As the state continues to experience urbanization pressures, particularly in areas adjacent to major cities and transport corridors, planned satellite developments offer a way to accommodate growth while preserving the state's natural beauty and environmental resources.

The Kangra Valley Aerocity, in particular, leverages the strategic importance of the Kangra region, which has seen increasing interest due to its connectivity and tourism potential. Similarly, HIM Chandigarh and HIM Panchkula are positioned to absorb growth from the Chandigarh tricity area while creating new opportunities for residents and businesses.

Outlook

With the MoU now signed, the focus will shift to detailed planning, land acquisition, infrastructure development, and phased implementation of the three satellite cities. The collaboration between HIMUDA, the state government, and HUDCO provides a strong foundation for delivering these ambitious projects.

The initiative is expected to generate significant economic activity, create employment opportunities, and provide high-quality urban living options for residents of Himachal Pradesh while setting new benchmarks for sustainable urban development in the region.
