Mohali Residents Protest Over Delay in PR-6 Road Construction, Allege Builder's Legal Dispute Stalling Key Project

Mohali, March 7, 2026: Residents and members of several housing societies under the Committee of Resident Welfare Associations and Societies, Mega Mohali, held a protest Friday outside the head office of a private builder in Sector 119, demanding early construction of the proposed PR-6 road .
Allegations Against Builder
Protesters alleged the project has stalled due to a legal dispute involving the builder, affecting thousands of residents in the area. CORWAS members said they had submitted representations to PUDA and the state government, requesting that approvals granted to the builder be withheld and that the court case delaying the project be resolved, but claimed no action had been taken .
CORWAS president Rajwinder Singh alleged that the builder obtained a high court stay "in collusion with PUDA officials," leading to the delay. He said several organizations had raised the issue earlier but the matter remained unresolved .
Background of the Dispute
Senior officials of GMADA and PUDA declined to comment, citing the matter as sub judice. PUDA sources said the department could not make an official statement while the case is pending in court .
A PUDA officer, requesting anonymity, said the builder had challenged the policy under which land for the road was acquired, despite having used the same proposed road alignment for marketing its real estate project. The officer said the case is listed for hearing on April 1, and the authority is contesting it as it concerns public interest .
Officials stated that PUDA acquired land for the road under the 2015 compensation policy, and the builder had already received compensation for its land. The builder later sought enhanced compensation and obtained a stay on construction .
CORWAS member and advocate Gaurav Goel said any increase in compensation would have wider implications for other builders and landowners, adding that PUDA had already spent nearly ₹200 crore on land acquisition .
Residents' Concerns
Residents emphasized that PR-6 is a key connector between Airport Road and Kharar-Landran Road and would ease congestion at Landran Chowk. They added that many buyers invested in nearby projects after being shown the proposed road during marketing campaigns, and the delay has caused hardship .
The land earmarked for the road remains unused and waterlogged, residents said, adding that construction would improve both connectivity and sanitation in the area .
