Belagavi, April 9: According to sources in the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC), the city has a total of 1,66,178 registered properties. Of these, property tax dues of only 95,829 have been cleared.

Collection Performance

  • Total collection (2025-26): 70.8 crore (increase of just 1.3 crore from previous year)

  • Target set: 78 crore + 11 crore in arrears (total ~89 crore)

  • Revenue gap: Significant shortfall

Defaulters Include

  • Private residential properties

  • Commercial establishments

  • Educational institutions

  • Government establishments

Impact

Officials acknowledge that the low recovery rate has impacted the corporation's financial planning and its ability to fund development works. The situation has also put the performance of the revenue department into question.

FY27 Targets

  • Property tax target: 85 crore

  • Expected arrears: 7 crore+

  • Total recovery target: Likely to exceed 92 crore

Way Forward

With a growing backlog and persistent non-compliance, the corporation is now under mounting pressure to strengthen enforcement measures and bridge the widening revenue gap.
