Belagavi City Corporation Cancels PIDs of 31 Unauthorised Buildings, Orders Probe into Officials

Belagavi, April 29, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has cancelled Property Identification Numbers (PIDs) issued to 31 unauthorised buildings in the city and initiated an inquiry into officials allegedly involved in irregular approvals.
The action follows an internal probe which found that the buildings were constructed without valid land records and were located in restricted zones.
Illegal Construction on Unregistered Land
According to officials, the affected properties are flats in two apartment complexes in Ward No. 9. The land for these buildings was reportedly acquired through ₹100 stamp paper agreements, without proper registration or legal documentation.
The inquiry further revealed that all 31 properties were built within a drain buffer zone, making them ineligible for PID allocation under civic norms.
Officials Under Scanner
The corporation has also launched an investigation into civic officials linked to the irregular issuance of PIDs. The probe has identified multiple officials across the revenue department who allegedly played a role in approving these properties.
Authorities indicated that some officials have acknowledged their involvement during departmental reviews.
Wider Impact and Concerns
The move has raised concerns among residents living in similar unauthorised developments across the city. Civic sources suggest that several such cases may exist across Belagavi’s 58 wards, potentially triggering further scrutiny.
While the action is being seen as a strong step toward enforcing property norms, it has also highlighted systemic lapses in monitoring and approval processes.
What Happens Next
Officials stated that further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry. The case could lead to stricter enforcement measures and wider verification of property records across the city.
The development underscores the risks associated with purchasing properties without proper documentation and approvals.
