Bhubaneswar, May 9: Odisha leads the nation in completing houses under PMAY-U 2.0, consistently securing the top spot since March 2025. The state has achieved significant progress with 2,008 houses completed and many more underway.

Progress Under PMAY-U 2.0

Since the launch of PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024, Odisha has shown steady progress in providing affordable housing to urban beneficiaries. From March 2025 to March 2026, the state maintained the highest house completion among all states.

Key Statistics

Official data shows that a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha so far. Of these, 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged. Foundation work has begun for 3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses were completed as of May 5. The remaining houses are at various stages of construction.

Credit and Timeline

The housing and urban development department attributed the performance to close coordination with urban local bodies and faster execution at ground level. Officials expressed confidence that the remaining targets would be achieved within the stipulated timeline.

Minister's Direction

Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, housing and urban development minister, directed officials to further expedite the construction works. Mahapatra asked officials to complete the remaining houses ahead of schedule, stressing the need for timely execution, adherence to quality standards and quick delivery of benefits to eligible urban poor families.
