Ghaziabad, April 24: In verification drives from 2017 to 2026, the department had found around 51 buildings flouting safety norms. Only nine of these establishments have since upgraded their infrastructure.

Current Status

  • Buildings still marked 'unsafe': 42

  • Residential buildings without proper fire equipment: 29 (home to ~25,000 people)

  • Hotels: 8

  • Banquet halls: 4

  • Commercial building: 1

Notable Case: Ajnara Gen-X

A fire broke out at a flat on the 20th floor of Ajnara Gen-X in Crossings Republik on Tuesday. While no injuries were reported, none of the housing's own fire equipment was working at the time. Despite being reported to court in 2017, the society has not upgraded its fire safety infrastructure in nine years.

Recent Upgrades

  • Supertech Livingston (Crossings Republik): Upgraded fire equipment on March 20, 2026 (proceedings since 2017)

  • Panchsheel Wellington (Crossings Republik): Approved on April 7, 2026 (marked unsafe in 2018)

  • Panchsheel Primrose: Made equipment functional on March 11, 2026 (case since 2022)

  • Santosh Hospital: Fire safety equipment approved in 2026 (reported unsafe in 2022)

  • Fortune Inn Grazia (Sector 23): Recently approved

Recent Inspections

  • Buildings inspected (last 2 months): Over 200

  • Notices issued: 150 to units where fire equipment was not in working condition

Official Statement

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal said: "If irregularities are found, we send notices and give a set time to complete the procedure. If they fail to do so, we report it to the district court."
