Leh, April 16: The renewal of lease deeds, which were pending for several years, will significantly benefit the residents by ensuring legal ownership and security of tenure.

An official spokesman said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'housing for all' and 'improved ease of living', ensuring citizens have secure housing rights and access to essential services, particularly in a geographically challenging region like Ladakh.

Process

  • Special camps were organised to expedite resolution of pending cases

  • Process carried out under Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Act, 1960

  • Similar camps will be organised to clear all pending cases of expired lease deeds

Resident Voices

Stazin Otsal, Nambardar of Housing Colony, said some residents, who have been residing in the area since 1975, had expired lease deeds, which prevented them from obtaining banking loans or selling their land.

Sonam Rigzin, Nambardar of Ibex Colony, said around 1,000 families live in the colony, many of whom served in the Indian Army, who will get relief if the administration also takes up their land-related issues.
