Around seven lakh slum dwellers will benefit from the slum cluster redevelopment scheme, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was informed at the 16th meeting of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority on Friday.

Slum Cluster Redevelopment Scheme

  • Beneficiaries: Approximately 7 lakh slum dwellers

  • Approach: Integrated and sustainable development

  • Reason: Limited response to joint venture projects, stalled projects, and unviable schemes

SRA Chief Mahendra Kalyankar informed that the process of identifying slum cluster areas is currently underway.

Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar & Kamaraj Nagar Project

  • Additional funding approved: ₹97 crore

  • Total funding now: ₹597 crore

  • Executing agency: MMRDA

Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe International Memorial (Ghatkopar)

  • Approved amount: ₹333 crore

  • Direction: Provide housing under rental housing scheme to ineligible slum dwellers affected by the project for expeditious completion

Absorption of BMC Engineers in SRA

  • BMC engineers working with SRA will be absorbed as employees of the authority

  • Strength: 30% of total sanctioned strength of engineers

  • Clerical staff and Group D employees on contract will also be absorbed

Background

The SRA is considered one of the most lucrative postings for engineers, with many reportedly refusing to return to BMC even after a decade with the civic body.
