Ujjain, April 11: The proposed airport is being led by Fly Bharathi Aviation & Aeronautics Pvt. Ltd. , which formalised its involvement through an MoU signed during the Global Investment Summit.

Project Overview

  • Estimated cost: ₹750 crore

  • Location: Near Datana–Matana airstrip (between Ujjain and Dewas)

  • Distance from city centre: ~20 km (approx. 30 minutes drive)

  • Initial land requirement: 241 acres

  • Long-term land plan: Nearly 10,000 acres

  • Runway length (Phase 1): 2,200 – 2,500 metres

  • Future potential: International operations

Interim Upgrade

The government has already approved approximately ₹590 crore to upgrade the existing airstrip, allowing flight operations to begin even before the full-scale airport is completed.

Tourism Demand

  • Madhya Pradesh annual tourists: ~13 crore

  • Ujjain alone contributes: Over 7.32 crore visitors

  • Key attraction: Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

  • Major event: Simhastha Kumbh Mela (2028)

Government Vision

The Ujjain airport is part of a larger strategy by the Madhya Pradesh government to strengthen regional aviation infrastructure, building airports at intervals of roughly 100 kilometres.

360-degree industrial ring corridor is also being planned within a two-hour travel radius from Ujjain, integrating the airport with surrounding economic zones.
