Delhi: MCD Begins Survey on Misuse of Residential Premises Following SC Directions

New Delhi, April 25: The apex court, in its order issued in early April, impleaded municipal corporations of all capital cities, including MCD, as party respondents and directed them to carry out a detailed inquiry.
Survey Scope

All residential colonies (including unauthorised and regularised colonies)

Group housing societies and plotted developments

Areas falling within MCD limits

Isolated pockets geographically surrounded by MCD jurisdictions
Process

Zonal deputy commissioners to conduct time-bound field inspections

Zone-wise lists of violations to be prepared

Data must be accurate and backed by proper records

Compiled reports to be submitted to additional commissioner (engineering) within seven days

Final affidavit to be personally affirmed by MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar
Accountability

Responsibility to be fixed in cases of omission or incorrect reporting

Any delay or laxity will be viewed seriously
Reaction
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the time period given was too short to cover the entire city, and that officials need to understand the background thoroughly.
