Background

These drives follow a Punjab and Haryana High Court stay on the state's stilt-plus-four-floor policy and a subsequent government order asking agencies to clear right-of-way violations. A court-appointed commission found that internal roads originally planned to be 10-12 metres wide had been reduced to motorable widths of only 3.9 to 4.8 metres due to encroachments.

Official Statement

HSVP officials said: "The department has deployed enforcement teams and will be assisted by engineering wings, horticulture staff, and local police for ground support." No relaxation will be granted once demolition begins.
