Revenue Minister Orders FIR in ₹87-Crore Borivali Land Row

Mumbai, April 25: The meeting was convened in connection with a long-running dispute involving CTS Nos 456, 458 and 458 (1 to 10) in Borivali.

Allegations

Members of the Devrukhkar family have alleged:

  • Fraud, abuse of authority, illegal disbursal of compensation

  • Forcible eviction from their ancestral property

  • They were excluded from the process and deprived of rightful compensation

  • A substantial portion was wrongfully released to a private builder based on disputed and invalid documents

Property Details

  • The land was owned by the Devrukhkar family for decades

  • Reserved for a public garden in the Development Plan

  • Compensation exceeding ₹87 crore was awarded

  • The family was forcibly evicted from the remaining portion where their homes stood, without due process or rehabilitation safeguards

Previous Inquiries

Previous inquiries found serious procedural lapses in the disbursal of compensation. Authorities had reportedly frozen and recovered part of the amount from accounts linked to the builder and his associates, while efforts to recover the remaining sum were ongoing.

Minister's Directive

Bawankule instructed the collector to complete the process and ensure the FIR is filed by 6 pm on Thursday. He directed officials to identify all those responsible, initiate legal proceedings, and submit a compliance report.
